First Discussion Posts!

Please post a reflection on last session and the article, "Last Chance on Death Row" by William Baude.  In your reflection, consider the following questions:

What does justice mean?  Does the meaning of justice change depending on the situation?
In criminal cases, should people be able to have an unlimited number of appeals?  Why or why not?
Are there times when other factors are more important than fairness?  For example, money or finality?

  1. I think that no one really knows what justice is. thats becuase we can never be sure whether or not the person who is seeking it is ever truly satisfied if, and/or when it has been served.

  2. I agree with dhanraj. We will never know true justice because other factors are more important in certain situations even if it shouldn't be the case.

  3. What are some of these other factors that are more important? Does whether a person is satisfied with the result determine whether there is justice?

  4. yes i think it does because that person's view of what is justice may not be the same as another person's. and as Samantha said there are other factors, factors as in what was the crime commited? and was there equal treatment for the perp. like; if the perp killed someone what if sending that person to jail isnt enough for the one seeking the justice? or if the one being sent to jail thinks it's unfair because they were either innocent or had a good reason for doing that crime. who then would get justice?

    you said:-

my response to this is no because it may not be the right justice but they think it is since they are winning the case even when it may be wrong i think their just not a real establish justice

  6. I think Justice is something which is just behavior or treatment for The quality of being fair and reasonable and prefer truth instead of lie. I dont think that the meaning of justice change depending on the situation because justic cannt be fair with lie, justiec is called when its righteousness and in crime cases there is not unlimited of appeals every thing has limit and rules regulations. yes there many times when other factors are more important than fairness which is not right we have to concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality etc.
